| Members’ Benefits |
|
Our society is for everyone interested in growing plants and caring for the natural environment in the Chiswick area. We welcome, without discrimination, people from all backgrounds including those from disadvantaged groups. If you wish to grow plants in gardens, on allotments, in conservatories, indoors or in community spaces, then, whatever your gardening experience, from complete novice to seasoned expert, you are welcome to join the Chiswick Horticultural Society and gain the following benefits: * Members can obtain informal advice and information about growing flowers, fruit and vegetables from experienced gardeners on Sunday mornings (except the first Sunday in the month) at the Trading Hut on the Staveley Road Allotment Site. Through our affiliation to the RHS, members may also contact their experts for gardening advice. Click here for the location of the Trading Hut.
* Members can purchase economically-priced gardening supplies, organic products, plants, eggs and some home-made produce at the Trading Hut. Specialist garden tools are also available for hire. In season, members can buy high quality seed potatoes, spring bulbs and bedding plants.
* Members with allotment-related issues or queries can seek assistance and advice from the Society’s Allotment Secretary who can also provide help with obtaining an allotment, arranging allotment sharing and with the maintenance of the allotment sites. Allotment holders may enter the Best Allotment and the Alternative Allotment competitions organised by the Society.
* Members may participate in our two Annual Shows: you can enter flowers, fruit and vegetables grown in your garden or allotment, and domestic produce; learn more about the finer points of growing and exhibiting with the attraction of winning a prestigious award; or you can simply attend and enjoy the displays and chat to other people. Members may also obtain free entry to various RHS competitions.
* Members may attend other events organised by the Society throughout the year including talks on horticultural topics, the Annual Dinner and other fun and social events.
* Members are welcome to participate in the development of our Wildlife Allotment and to enjoy the native plants and wildlife. The Wildlife Allotment is intended to be an educational asset for use by local schools and a nature reserve for the local community. It will also help to make gardeners more aware of the important contribution they can make to wildlife conservation.
* Members may contribute to various charitable initiatives that the Society is organising: the adaptation of allotments for use by people with impaired mobility problems; the establishment of a “teaching allotment” and help with Grove Park School’s mini-allotment; the promotion of allotment regeneration in the London Borough of Hounslow. |
